As the leading tourism company in Croatia, Valamar Riviera continually strives to promote environmental protection and rational use of resources.

During the official ceremony held at the Valamar Diamant, TÜV Croatia representatives conferred the ISO 50001 certificate to Valamar Riviera, which represents the most famous and the most prestigious standard of assessing energy management systems. This international standard helps companies establish systems and processes necessary to improve energy performance, including energy efficiency, use and consumption. The implementation of this international standard aims at reducing greenhouse gasses emission and other related environmental impact as well as energy costs through a systematic approach to energy management.

“In a time when it has become evident that renewable sources of energy are the only sustainable future for our planet, managing our corporate influence on the environment and natural resources is not a trend anymore-it becomes a necessity. We are proud that Valamar Riviera has received this valuable certificate, because it is an additional recognition of the efforts we invest in sustainability. This has been increasingly recognized by not only professionals, but also by our community as well as our guests, “said Ivana Budin Arhanić, Vice President of Business Development and Corporate Affairs at Valamar Riviera d.d.

TÜV Croatia, member of the TÜV NORD GROUP from Germany, conferred this certificate. TÜV NORD GROUP is one of the most prestigious certification companies present worldwide. Dr.sc. Đuro Tunjić, Management Board President, noted that with this certificate Valamar Riviera will be recognized in the whole world as a company which has understood the importance of establishing an energy management system. Valamar Riviera has become the proud holder of the ISO 50001 certificate and now has the right to use the TÜV label which has become the synonym for quality and safety.

In the last three years, Valamar Riviera has invested over HRK 12 million in energy efficiency. In 2015 the greenhouse gasses emissions were significantly reduced by almost 500 tons, while investment in green technologies was already started in the 1980s. The efforts Valamar puts  into environmental protection and sustainable business have been recognized by leading professional organizations, as confirmed by the many labels and certificates that Valamar’s properties proudly carry, such as “Sustainable Hotel“, “Travelife Gold Award“, TUI Environmental Champions and the “Blue Flag“. High environmental protection standards are confirmed by numerous certificates. Valamar started conforming its management systems to ISO and other international standards in 2006, and to the present day it has certified the quality control management system to ISO 9001, the environment management system to ISO 14001 and the food safety management system to Codex alimentarius.

Valamar Riviera has received an award conferred by the Croatian Business Council for Sustainable Development for its Corporate Responsibility policy and practice and for managing its environmental impact in 2015.
