Valamar Riviera, the largest Croatian tourism company, and E.ON Croatia have won the 2022 GREEN PRIX NATIONAL ENVIRONMENTAL AWARD in the Decarbonize the Community category for natural and legal persons whose project activities have contributed to achieving climate goals in the wider community from 2021 to 2022. The GREEN PRIX is awarded as part of the Greencajt festival, which has brought together green transition and sustainability leaders for the second year running. The award is given in partnership with the Ministry of Economy and Sustainable Development and the Environmental Protection and Energy Efficiency Fund and in cooperation with the Croatian Chamber of Commerce.
In cooperation with E.ON Croatia, Valamar Riviera implemented the most ambitious solar power plant project in Croatia in 2021 by installing solar panels in 26 Valamar hotels and camps along the Adriatic coast, enabling Valamar to generate up to 6% of total electricity from solar power.
Valamar Riviera is a sustainable tourism leader in Croatia and Europe, as confirmed by the Financial Times, which included Valamar on its prestigious list of European climate leaders in 2022, following continuous efforts and investments in environmental protection.
“As the largest investor in Croatian tourism, Valamar has invested over HRK 6 billion in portfolio development, with HRK 500 million allocated to sustainability programs since 2015, which amounts to more than 4% of total revenues. Valamar Riviera has decreased the CO2 emission intensity per overnight by as much as 70% in this period. Valamar Amicor Green Resort on Hvar island, the first sustainable eco-resort in Croatia which meets the highest standards of green building, renewable energy use and a high level of energy efficiency will open this year. The Green Prix award is a great acknowledgment for the Company’s responsible and sustainable business management, which creates new value for all stakeholders”, said Deana Stipanović, Director of Corporate Affairs at Valamar Riviera.
“At E.ON we are consistently dedicated to the development of sustainable energy and green transition. This dedication is reflected in the ambitious climate goals set out by our Group which are officially supported by the Science Based Targets initiative (SBTi). Investments in the transformation of our energy system means investing in environmental protection and supply security, which is necessary now. This award supports successful business management through strategic partnerships, like our project with Valamar where we installed solar power plants at tourism properties. This project is a significant step toward green and sustainable tourism which is key to Croatian economy”, said Andreas Rörig, President of the Board of E.ON Croatia.
